Transcript

(J) The end of Canada’s contribution to the United Nation’s stabilization mission in Mali is drawing near with the Canadian Armed Forces set to depart at the end of August.

(S) We spoke to one of the CAF members deployed to further discuss this contribution and what is currently being done to help ensure continued operational success in the region.

(JW) As the air crew flight commander, I’m responsible for all of the aircrew assigned to Operation PRESENCE.

On Op PRESENCE, the MEDEVAC capability that we provide enables our partner nations to conduct patrols and street-level engagements and to have freedom of manoeuver under that umbrella of MEDEVAC that we provide.

Our second line of operations also allows them to access areas of the country that they wouldn’t normally be able to visit without helicopter transportation.

(S) Be sure to check out the Fortissimo military and musical spectacular on the lawns of Parliament Hill from July 18th to 20th at 7 p.m. eastern time.

(J) Admission is free and each night will feature musical performances from a wide variety of Canadian Armed Forces bands, international bands, and from the Sky Hawks, the Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team.

Those wishing to attend should arrive and be seated by 6:45 p.m. each night or can tune into the livestream from 7 to 9 p.m. Eastern Time on July 18th.
