(J) Operation NANOOK-NUNALIVUT recently took place in and around Resolute Bay, Nunavut and Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories.

As part of the Arctic survival training element, the operation allowed members of the Royal Canadian Navy’s Fleet Diving Unit (Atlantic) to submerge beneath thick ice alongside numerous international divers.

(S) During the operation, the CAF also provided support to scientific groups and departments conducting research on cold weather injuries and energy efficient shelter systems in the area.

The largest portion involved the Land Task Force with 300 personnel participating in this years operation.

(J) The activities conducted under operation NANOOK-NUNALIVUT are essential in enabling and achieving Arctic-specific initiatives outlined in Canada’s Defence Policy: Strong, Secured, and Engaged.
