Welcome back to Defence Team News. I’m Lt(N) Jamie Bresolin.

And I’m Renato Giamberardino. Here are the headlines at Defence.

The annual Celebrating Excellence Awards ceremony was held on June 15th at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

Deputy Minister Jody Thomas and the Chief of the Defence Staff General Jonathan Vance were at the event to recognize 111 recipients in 11 different award categories.

This year’s award recipients represent just a few of the many dedicated women and men who demonstrate exceptional service in building the future of Defence every day.

Congratulations and Bravo Zulu to this year’s award recipients. The names and citations of all those who were recognized can be found on the Defence Team intranet.

The remains of three Canadian First World War soldiers have been identified in France.

Private William Del Donegan, Private Henry Edmonds Priddle, and Sergeant Archibald Wilson were discovered over the course of a year in the same area.

All three soldiers were from Manitoba and enlisted in Winnipeg. They died during the Battle of Hill 70 as members of the 16th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Members of the three families have been notified and Veterans Affairs Canada is providing them with ongoing support as final arrangements are made. The soldiers will be buried by their enduring unit, the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) of Victoria, B.C, in the presence of family and Government of Canada representatives later this summer in France.

With the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War upon us, it’s especially poignant that these once unknown soldiers will be properly honoured for the ultimate sacrifice they made for their country.

That’s it for us. Thank you so much for watching. See you next time…
