Transcript

Who helped you most along the way? That would have to be my mom, she was always my greatest champion.

Hello, I’m Doctor Denise Preston. I’m the Executive Director of the Sexual Misconduct Response Centre, and I’m here to take the ’60 Second Challenge’.

  1. How does your education and background help in your current role at SMRC?

My education, I have a PHD in clinical and forensic psychology, and I spent two and a half decades working for the Federal criminal justice system. So lots of experience with sex offenders as well as with victims of very serious offences.

  1. How does the SMRC support Operation HONOUR?

SMRC provides support to CAF members who’ve been affected by sexual misconduct. And that’s the Third Pillar of Operation HONOUR.

  1. What advice would you give women considering a military or public service career today?

I would say ‘go for it’. It was the best decision that I ever made, it’s a very, very rewarding career working for the public service.

  1. How do Defence Team members contact the SMRC and what is the SMRC’s main goal?Defence Team members can contact us 24/7 by phone or by email during Corps hours, which are 7am to 5pm. And our main goal is to provide support to CAF members, including Chain of Command, who are either affected by sexual misconduct or who are managing situations of sexual misconduct.

Thank you very much.
