Chief of the Defence Staff appoints first Strategic Sector Command Chief Warrant Officer
On March 19, 2018, the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command (CFINTCOM) appointed its first Strategic Sector Command Chief Warrant Officer.
Command Chief Warrant Officer (CCWO) Bob Viel was officially presented his new rank insignia by General Jonathan Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff.
“This appointment isn’t about me. It is, however, a noteworthy success for the command as it will ensure future CFINTCOM Command Chief Warrant Officers are appropriately positioned and heard at the strategic level,” said CCWO Viel.
This appointment denotes an important step forward for CFINTCOM as it continues to mature. The CFINTCOM CCWO is now part of the strategic sector of the CPO1/CWO Corps, meaning representation of CFINTCOM interests within the Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer’s Inner Council.
It also represents a milestone of the CPO1/CWO Strategic Employment Model, a systematic and adaptable approach to generate, develop, employ and sustain its CPO1/CWOs towards strategic level employment to ensure they’re well-prepared to make immediate and meaningful contributions.
“This appointment is not only significant for CFINTCOM, it’s an important achievement for Command Chief Warrant Officer Viel personally. He has depth of experience and wisdom that comes from a decades-long career built on professionalism and integrity, and I’m pleased to extend him my warmest congratulations,” said Rear-Admiral Scott Bishop, Commander, CFINTCOM.
CCWO Viel has been with CFINTCOM since 2015 as the Canadian Forces Intelligence Group CWO. In June 2016, he was appointed as CFINTCOM CWO.
