Watch the March 19 episode of Defence Team News!
In this episode, we highlight:
- a military artifact recently sent back to Canada; and
- tax season information
Welcome back to Defence Team News, I’m Shelley Van Hoof.
And I’m Lt(N) Jeffrey Lura. Here are the headlines at Defence.
An irreplaceable military artifact was recently sent back to Canada in a gesture aimed at commemorating Canada’s role in the First World War.
Canada fought for the cause of freedom across Europe throughout the First World War. This effort and those sacrifices culminated in the liberation of Mons in November 1918. This canon is a symbol of the sacrifices and the victories of the Canadians in the First World War, a legacy that continues today with Canada’s participation in NATO, and peace and security in Europe.
The field gun recently arrived in Ottawa where King Philippe of Belgium presented it to the people of Canada during a ceremony at the Canadian War Museum.
The gun is one of two gifted by Canadians to the City of Mons following the 1918 armistice: the second remains on display at the Mons Memorial Museum in Belgium. As part of the 100th Anniversary of the end of the First World War, Canadians are encouraged to attend the commemoration events planned for November 2018 in Belgium.
Tax time is approaching, so make sure you have the documents and information you need to file your taxes correctly before the April 30th deadline. For civilian employees, your tax slips are available in the Phoenix Employee Self-Service portal or by registering for My Account on the Canada Revenue Agency website.
Civilian employees who have been paid incorrectly due to the Phoenix pay system may have additional questions about their taxes this year. Take a look at the tax tips, tools and resources for public servants on the HR-civ intranet site.
Keep in mind that if you need to consult a tax expert because of Phoenix pay issues, the Government of Canada will reimburse expenses of up to $200 for tax advice. Defence Team members can also take advantage of discounted tax preparation services through the CF Appreciation Program.
That’s it for us. Thank you so much for watching. See you next time…
