The historic cenotaph from the Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan has a new home. The memorial, erected to honour fallen Canadian Armed Forces members in the Afghanistan combat mission, is being permanently installed at National Defence Headquarters (Carling) in Ottawa.

Located between Buildings 7 and 9, the Cenotaph Pavilion will permanently preserve the artifact. Defence Team members will be able to visit the site, which will act as a place of commemoration and remembrance.

Construction of the Pavilion housing the cenotaph began in May and is scheduled to finish at the end of November. The official opening date and ceremony will be announced at a later date.
