Welcome back to Defence Team News, I’m Shelley Van Hoof. Here are the headlines at Defence.

Veterans Affairs Canada and National Defence recently unveiled the Government’s new Pension for Life plan. This monthly payment for life will make it easier for Veterans to access available support programs and provide holistic benefits, including financial stability.

The Pension for Life plan offers monthly, tax-free financial compensation recognizing the pain and suffering caused by a service-related disability. Additionally, it offers income replacement for Veterans who are experiencing barriers returning to work, and additional services and benefits in a wide-range of areas, including education, employment, and physical and mental health.

Canada is committed to ensuring the men and women who have served in uniform have access to the resources they need while transitioning to civilian life.

Recently, the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship project completed a significant milestone for HMCS Harry DeWolf. The movement of the vessel’s final mega-block was completed at the Halifax Shipyard. The final mega-block will be joined to the first two, which were moved outdoors in July 2017. The ship’s launch is expected this summer.

As part of the Strong, Secure, Engaged defence policy the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship project will deliver five to six ships to the Royal Canadian Navy to provide armed, sea-borne surveillance of Canadian waters, including in the Arctic.

That’s it for this episode. Thank you so much for watching. See you next time…for Defence Team News!
